A business partner with Gary Howse in Gary Manuel Salon since 1979, Manuel Benevich attributes the longevity of both the business and the relationship to the many similar passions these two very different men share. Obviously motivated by their interest in beauty and the fashion industry, the two are also passionate about educating a new generation of highly skilled professional stylists and giving back to their community. And of course it helps that they both share the highest standards for customer service.

Vanessa began working with Gary Manuel Salon in 2000 and was hired as the Assistant Salon Leader in 2008. Between 2000 and 2005, she was a member of the Salon’s leadership team, and she has held a variety of positions with the Salon, including Retail Coordinator and Guest Service Manager. As a licensed cosmetologist, Vanessa worked for other local salons as a hairdresser.

A graduate of the University of Washington with a decade of experience in the salon industry, Emily Goodrich joined the Gary Manuel Salon team as Human Resources Leader in 2009. “Being a part of Gary Manuel Salon allows me to merge my love for business and being involved in the world of beauty and fashion,” says Emily, who also loves animals and volunteers with various Seattle animal rescue programs. As part of that work, she has fostered animals until they were adoptable (“…at times my home is like a zoo or a pet store”).

People who love trying new looks love Audrey, a sassy stylist into shoes and travel who has been a designer at Gary Manuel Salon since 2005. “I’m loud and crazy and very enthusiastic about what I do,” she proudly proclaims. Her style trends towards sharp lines that are easy for clients to recreate at home, and she loves, “a happy client – making that guest leave feeling beautiful!”. A big fan of the “amazing, intense, and very precise” advanced training she received in the Salon’s Phase 3 program (“loved it!”), Audrey hopes to become an instructor one day as well.

A 2003 transplant from Memphis, TN, Parker has a dog that rules her life. Nevertheless, she says she loves it here, and she’s a great listener who also loves color, cooking, wine, and seeing people smile. A graduate of Gary Manuel Salon’s Phase 3 advanced training program, Parker joined the Salon’s design team in 2006. She hopes to be an instructor soon, and says she feels “totally ready for any hair challenges.” The secret behind her terrific styles? “I use every tool I’ve learned to design a great look for my guests, and they love their hair.”

Dan likes his work to be creative, edgy, and original. The foundation of “that Dan Suh flava,” he says, is his haircuts’ structure, which grew out of the training he received at Gary Manuel Salon’s Phase 3 advanced training program (“technically perfect and artistically the best”). A designer at Gary Manuel Salon since 2006, Dan likes knowing he’s given his clients “not just a good haircut but a flawless one.” The result? Consistent, cutting-edge designs that are “easy to style and flow with your hair’s natural growth and texture – so they still look great even after you’ve grown them out.”

A Seattle native who loves travel and the outdoors, Kami gets great satisfaction from working with people every day. Following 17 “very fast” months of training in Gary Manuel Salon’s Phase 3 Advanced Training Program, Kami joined the Salon’s design team in 2006. Stylish and energetic, she’s a highly versatile designer who enjoys really connecting with people, understands how to listen to a client’s needs and wants. She “loves doing everything from men’s hair to short cute bobs to long hair and fabulous color.” Kami is certified in Hairlocs and Keratin straightening and also does on-site weddings.

A vibrant member of the Gary Manuel Salon team since September 2006, Opal began working at the Salon fresh from her training at Gary Manuel Aveda Institute (GMAI) because, as she puts it, “I have a passion for hair and knew I needed more training to become the stylist I want to be!” In addition to her work as a hair dresser, Opal helped with a fashion shoot that appeared in the September 2008 edition of Seattle Magazine. She will begin working as a cadet instructor in 2009.

Probably best known for his short haircuts, Jeff is constantly looking for new and exciting ways to personalize each and every hair style. ‘I always try to do something a little different for every guest. I don’t want any two clients having the exact same style.’ he says. But by no means is Jeff just a haircutter, he also enjoys coloring and foiling as well. ‘I dont want people to think that I only do this, or I only do that. I love doing all kinds of different hair. Short, Medium, Long, Brown, Blonde, Red, you name it!’ In addition to loving the creative side of hair design, Jeff is also proud to be part of a team so committed to giving back to the community and doing everything they can for the environment. ‘That’s why I am an Aveda guy; always have been, always will be.’

In January 2007, one month after she finished high school and beauty school simultaneously, Ashley arrived at Gary Manuel Salon. ‘I knew I wanted more education and the best training possible,’ Ashley says. Energetic and fashionable, Ashley has a way with natural cuts that are easy for clients to style for themselves, as well as edgier styles and more stimulating colors. ‘I love when people are smiling at the end of their service; it’s what I truly enjoy about my job.’

After honing her stylist skills in color and cutting at the Gary Manuel Aveda Institute, Gia Pearson joined the Gary Manuel Salon team in 2006. “I’m an avid fan of the environmentally friendly Aveda products,” she says, “because of their high quality and social consciousness, they’re a brand I trust and love.” Gia enjoys using color and the right cut to bring out the best of clients features. “Whether it’s bringing out their natural eye color or showing off a fabulous complexion – that’s why I love my job!”

A member of the Gary Manuel Salon team since July 2007, Christopher Archiopoli’s salon career began as a graphic designer and manager for a small chain of salons in Phoenix, Arizona. After completing a degree in marketing at Arizona State University, Christopher realized he wanted to remain in the salon industry but didn’t enjoy sitting at a desk all day. “This need for change,” he says, “coupled with my desire to be able to make a positive influence on people’s lives – not only to my regular clients but also by giving back to the community – motivated me to go to cosmetology school. Upon moving to Seattle and making myself familiar with the city’s top salons, I quickly realized that Gary Manuel was the place that I wanted to work.”

She loves what she does. And, by “incorporating hair and makeup the two keep me inspired and always looking ahead.”

A Wisconsin native, Derik has been living in Seattle for a little over 10 years. A very skilled chef, Derik’s career interest changed paths when he realized designing hair was his ultimate passion. After graduating from the Gary Manual Aveda Institute Derik joined the Gary Manuel team in 2008. He excelled through the salon’s advanced training program and continues to seek out challenging, inspiring education. He takes part in the Wedding Team, providing onsite or in salon services. Derik also offers the Marcia Keratin Treatment and permanent waves. Currently Derik is enrolled at GMAI in Instructor Training – a program that will enable him to become a licensed instructor and share his knowledge and love of the industry with beauty school students. Derik is a passionate person who loves doing hair, addicted to watching The Golden Girls, he believes “there is a Golden Girl in all of us.” His ultimate goal is to master his craft by learning everything he can from his co-workers and clients.
